It was her first few weeks in secondary school, and she loved it. She was in a big school, and she must have felt very grown-up (I know I did when I was 11 too).
Already, she had got a boyfriend and dumped him within a few days. I asked her how he took it and she replied very seriously that he very devastated and cried, but it wasn't working out.
As she was my neighbour sometimes - when she lived with her dad - so we walked home together. I with her older sister and her with my brother.
And this is how their conversation went something like...
Girl: So, what do you think I should do? There's a boy that fancies me, another boy that apparently fancies me, and a boy that I fancy.
My idiotic brother: You should leave the school.
She then came up to me and said with a completely straight face.
"Your brother's not very good at giving girly advice."
