Gay marriage.

Let's see, it was said on QI and that human beings are the only race to exhibit homophobic behaviours. I was very cynical about it, my first thought would be that perhaps human beings are the only race to even exhibit homosexual behaviours, but this was not so.

In my humble opinion, although it's self-explanatory that I think I'm right, every single being should have the freedom to love and be with whom they choose.

Put yourself into this situation, if you are straight, could you make yourself be with someone of your own gender? For some, your answer may be yes.
However, for those who could not, this is the exact dilemma for those who are homosexual, they cannot be forced to love someone of a different gender, it is a part of who they are.

Secondly, who gave us the right to dictate how others lead their lives? Gay marriage should absolutely be legal and allowed. It allows couples to fulfil a symbolic ritual for their time together.
What effect does it have on us? Gay people are no different to us, just as most people have certain types of people they might be attracted to, gay people's particularly happen to be of the same gender.

Are people born gay?
This clip shows John Barrowman (who I think is absolutely awesome) going through several brain tests to investigate the part the brain plays in being gay. In summary, the research shows that the development of certain brain behaviours, which is strongly linked to sexuality, is developed during time in a mother's womb - before birth. Why should people change how they were born, when it's perfectly natural and doesn't harm anyone else.

I use the phrase 'perfectly normal'.
Let's talk about sex. While reproduction can only happen 'naturally' between a man and a woman having sex, many heterosexual couples today use contraception methods to prevent pregnancy. Hence the argument that sex is also used for recreation purposes. While some religions are against the use of contraception due to it 'messing' with the purpose of making love - to create new life; in today's society contraception is viewed as almost an essential. In the 1950's when the contraceptive pill was introduced, it became a way for women to pursue a career, and have more control over their lives.
In a long-winded manner, what I am attempting to say is that the majority of sexual activities are not aimed at having children, so why should gay sex be looked down upon?

I can't find where I first saw this, but another very strong argument is that gay couples cannot accidently have children. We hear about teen pregnancies a lot, and unplanned children, but gay couples won't have this problem.
In fact, if a gay couple want to start a family, they have to plan very carefully, as there are many aspects to consider. Whose sperm/egg are they going to use, or how they are going to choose? For male couples, how are they going to find a surrogate mother if that is their option? Are they going to adopt?
There are no unwanted children in families with gay parents.

What was the other thing on the news? Something about teaching gay marriage in school?
Well, even if you don't believe in it, we are taught both the theory of evolution in science and the 7 days of Creation in Religious Studies. We get to decide.
